Many more Iowans are getting government checks in the mail to rebuild their lives after the recent severe storms and flooding. Lew Wood, spokesman for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, says the numbers have taken a big jump this week.Wood says 25-hundred Iowans have called in to apply for aid. More than four-million dollars in grants and loans has already been approved.Wood says the six FEMA disaster recovery centers are still operating in Iowa today, despite it being a federal holiday. People who had damage during the foul weather who still want to apply for assistance can call 1-800-621-FEMA.
