During a standout competitive career which included a spot on the 1988 Canadian Olympic team Larissa Libby never intended to become a coach. But that all changed while she competed at LSU and Libby was named the new women’s gymnastics coach at Iowa.Libby traveled extensively with her elite career and changed her mind after her four year stay LSU.Libby has been part of the Iowa program for the past four years and has seen the Hawkeyes climb from 65th to 12th in the national rankings.Libby says it will be tougher to move up from 12 but feels they are ready. Gymnastics is not a sanctioned high school sport in Iowa so the recruiting base is a large one. Libby recruits from all over the country and the girls on the team have the final say on who is recruited. She replaces Mike Lorenzen who resigned after five years as head coach.
