State tourism officials are hoping you’ll travel to an Iowa attraction to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Nancy Landess, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office, says with the holiday on Monday, many people will extend the celebration. She says with the long weekend people will be tempted to take off Friday, making it a four-day weekend. She says they’re suggesting people take “Four on the Fourth” and see a number of things over the weekend. Landess says they have suggestions for events in the state’s 10 travel regions. She says they suggest things like Ice Cream Days in Le Mars, the blues festival in Davenport, or the Riverboat Days in Clinton, and many fireworks displays. Landess says you can find a variety of things to do at:www.traveliowa.com.She says you should click on the icon that says “Four on the Fourth” for suggestions. Landess says the 4th is a holiday when people tend to travel by car. She says Triple-A is predicting a three-percent increase in travel compared to last year. She says gas prices are down a little, so they think it will be a strong weekend for travel.
