Joey Woody is not the only former UNI standout hoping to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic track and field team. Former NCAA champion Jacob Pauli is a contender in the pole vault and upped his personal record with a vault of 19-feet-and-a-quarter-inch at a qualifying meet in Cedar Falls over the weekend. The eighth best vault by an American this year. Like Pauli, Joey Woody has already qualified for the U.S. trials and he ran a 48-point-66 in the 400 hurdles.After winning silver at the World Championships last season Woody now has his sights set on Athens. Woody says he considers himself one of the top two or three in the world and people are expecting him to be there at the finish.The U.S. Olympic trials are July 9th through the 18th in Sacramento.
