A Forest City athlete is moving closer to her dreams in professional golf. 18 year-old Kendra Hanson has just become one of the qualifiers in a U.S. Women’s Amateur event leading to playoffs next month in Pennsylvania. Hanson played in a qualifying tournament in the twin cities. With the help of her dad, Kent acting as caddy, Kendra simply focused on performing well at the Minneapolis event. She said she just wanted to play well and meet the expectations of future teammates at Iowa State. She says she just wanted to play her game and see what happened. She says her nervousness went away once she got on the course and she shot a 74 for 18 holes. The U.S. Women’s Amateur Open in Pennsylvania is the event where 14 year-old golf sensation Michelle Wie (we) gained national recognition.
