With the regular season coming to an end high school baseball teams in the two smallest classes are gearing up for the start of district tournament play. Valley of Elgin has posted a 25-1 mark and is third ranked in class 1A but faces a difficult test in the opening game of the tournament against seventh rated Lansing Kee. Valley coach Roger Craig says with the one and done format of the tournament the slate is wiped clean. He says the focus has got to go up and the level of play too.Craig says in the post-season mistakes are magnified. He says most baseball games are lost and not won. He says they’ve had consistency this year in not giving free bases and making the plays they need to make.Class 2A district action also begins on Monday. The largest two classes have a week remaining in their regular season.
