West Nile victim identified

July 9, 2004 By admin

We’re learning more about the Iowan who became the state’s first confirmed case of the West Nile virus this year, and also the first death from the disease. The state health department said confidentiality laws prevent them from naming the man or telling where he’s from, but the Omaha World Herald says he was 62-year-old William Brower of Harlan. Brower worked as a roadside mower for the state transportation department and the report says it was the middle of June when he got sick, during a job mowing along Interstate-29 near Sioux City. He was admitted to the V-A Medical Center in Omaha June 21, and died six days later after his heart, lungs and kidneys failed. Autopsy results yesterday confirmed his death was linked to the West Nile virus.
