There will be a new class 2A baseball champion, as last year’s winner Carlisle fell in their district opener last night to Pleasantville 3-2 in eight innings. Carlisle came into the game ranked number one in the Radio Iowa High School poll. Last year’s champion in Class 1A, Van Meter got off on a winning note in their attempt to repeat — downing Earlham 10-3 last night in district play. Class 1A fifth ranked North Mahaska downed Lynville-Sully 9-0 in first round district play. North Mahaska pitchers Levi Ferguson and Nick Ehret combined to throw a three-hitter for coach Kevin Kelterman.North Mahaska had defeated Lynvile-Sully for the second time in the regular season Friday night, and Kelterman was pleased with the effort his team gave in the third meeting.North Mahaska advances to a rematch of with Twin Cedars of Busey which beat them last year in a substate matchup.
