120 laid off Maytag workers head back to work

July 14, 2004 By admin

Due to a reported increase in demand for Maytag washers and driers, more workers are being taken on at the Newton factory. The UAW and Maytag say up to 120 people will be headed back to work next Monday, production employees who are among the 400-some workers who were laid off before the June 10th strike. They’d since been told the company considered them “unreinstated strikers” and there’s been no change in that status. Union leaders hope to address the issue with Maytag officials this week.
