The Iowa Attorney General’s office now has a toll-free number for reporting consumer fraud. State representative Joe Hutter, a republican from Bettendorf, sees the new number as a victory.Hutter says he’s tried since he was elected two years ago to get the AG. to install the 800-number as many lower-income seniors are reluctant to make a long-distance call to report suspected fraud cases. Hutter he learned of the new number in a phone call from a top official in Des Moines.Eric Tabor, first assistant attorney general, called Hutter to let him know the number had been approved. The toll-free number to call to report consumer fraud is 888-777-4590.
