It did not take long for Iowa football fans to claim all the throwback uniforms the Hawkeyes will wear during their September fourth season opener against Kent State. U-of-I officials announced that all the uniforms made available for purchase have been sold at 500 dollars each. The turn back the clock promotion to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Kinnick Stadium is popular at the box office as well. U-of-I ticket manager David Sandstrum says fewer than eight thousand tickets remain. He says the interest in the 75th anniversary and the recent success of the football team have spurred a lot of excitement about football. Last week Sandstrum suspended sales of tickets for games against Iowa State and Ohio State and he says more could follow. He says the Michigan State homecoming game and the Kent State games are doing very well, as are Purdue and Wisconsin. The suspension of sales is due to a sharp increase in the number of season ticket applications and the six-game home package the university sells. Sandstrum says a number of games may be sold out before the season begins. He says Iowa State and Ohio State for sure will be sell outs.
