There’ll be no more manic Mondays at eight Iowa Department of Transportation driver’s license stations at the end of this month. Shirley Andre is the Director of the D-O-T’s Motor Vehicle Division, and says they’re stopping Monday service in Ames, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Iowa City, Sioux City, and Waterloo. She says they believe that by doing this they’ll be able to provide a higher level of customer service Tuesday through Saturday. Andre says the concentrated service should make the lines move faster.She says so many people come in first thing in the morning, over the noon hour, and at the end of the day. She says with the staff concentrated on five days, it’ll provide much better service. She says the schedule will still accommodate those people who can’t get away from work. She says they’ve offered the Saturday schedule since 1977 or 1978 so people who work Monday through Friday don’t have to take time away from work to get a driver’s license. She says they’re staying committed to the Saturday hours. Andre says the D-O-T office aren’t the only option for getting a license. She says there are 81 county treasurers who’re partners with the D-O-T who can issue a driver’s license and tests too. Andre says the 10 other D-O-T operated driver’s license stations already run a Tuesday through Saturday schedule.
