Two more cases of West Nile in Iowa

Two more Iowans have tested positive for West Nile Disease. The only case reported up till now this year was also a fatal one, a west-central Iowa man whose death was blamed on the mosquito-borne disease after an autopsy. 62-year-old William Brower of Harlan died at the VA hospital in Omaha June 21, after his heart, lungs and kidneys failed. Friday the Iowa Department of Public Health reported that two people are recovering at home, a northwest Iowa woman in her thirties, and a south-central Iowa man in his 80’s Health officials are cautiously optimistic that the disease may be following its typical pattern, declining after a peak the first couple years it’s found in a new state. Last year Iowa had 147 human cases of the disease and six people died.
