Two boats collided on West Lake Okoboji this morning. One person was killed and a number of others were injured. Rod Slings of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says two open bowed pleasure boats powered by gasoline engines collided. The names of those involved are not being released yet, and Slings isn’t releasing many details about the accident. this is the second boating death in Iowa this year. Slings says “information on witnesses and causes of the crash” are being investigated by D-N-R officers. Weather was probably not a factor.Slings says there were ideal weather conditions today, with blue skies and fairly tranquil winds.This is the second boating fatality in Iowa this year. Slings says last year, there were no boating fatalities — the first time that’s happened since the D-N-R began keeping records. Slings says with so few boating deaths occurring lately, it makes today’s accident more shocking. The accident happened at about 10:30 this morning. State officials say there were “multiple” injuries and those who were injured are being treated at a local hospital.
