President Bush nominated Florida Congressman Porter Goss this morning as the new CIA director. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he’s known Goss for years and supports the President’s choice. Grassley says Goss is well-respected in Congress on intelligence issues and predicts he’ll be confirmed. Goss, a republican who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, would replace George Tenent at the CIA, who stepped down last month in a firestorm of controversy over the issue of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell, a democrat, has served on the Intelligence Committee with Goss and earlier this summer Boswell said Goss was a good fit for the job. Goss was a CIA agent in the 1960s.
