Candidates campaign in Iowa, discuss war in Iraq

August 11, 2004 By admin

The war in Iraq is again at the center of the presidential campaign debate. Vice President Dick Cheney, just like President Bush did yesterday, again questioned democratic presidential candidate John Kerry’s credentials on the war. Bush and Kerry have been trading charges over why the U.S. went to war in Iraq, and how it’s been prosecuted. Cheney said Kerry has a “deep and dangerous misunderstanding of the world.” Cheney also got the crowd to boo Kerry and his runningmate, John Edwards, for voting against the additional spending President Bush requested for operations in Iraq. Cheney quoted Kerry as saying he voted for the funding before he voted against it. Cheney says Kerry now says he’s proud he voted against the funding, calling it complicated. Cheney says voting to fund our troops should never be complicated.A spokesman for the Kerry says Dick Cheney and George Bush don’t have the credibility to make the attack since American troops are now paying the price in Iraq because Bush rushed in without having a proper plan for peace. On Saturday, President Bush will campaign in Sioux City. Kerry or his runningmate John Edwards are expected to return to campaign in Iowa sometime in the next two weeks.
