89th Annual Meskwaki Pow Wow this weekend

August 14, 2004 By admin

While droves of people will flock to the 150th Iowa State Fair this weekend, entertainment seekers might also try Tama County and the 89th annual Meskwaki Pow Wow. David Obbear is helping organize this year’s event, which focuses on the cultural dances of that Native American tribe. Social dances will include the Bean dance, the Shawnee Dance, the Buffalo Head Dance and the Meskwaki Dance. Obbear says visitors will also be able to see native regalia, arts and crafts, and tribal exhibits. The Meskwaki settlement is located three miles east of Tama on Highway E-49, along the Iowa River.
