The football team at St. Ambrose University has its sights set on the national playoffs again this season. The Fighting Bees have 14-starters back from last year’s team that finished 8-4 and advanced to the second round of the N-A-I-A playoffs.St. Ambrose coach Todd Sturdy who says a strong senior class of 24 is a big plus. He says they do need to get some experience in some areas, but it’s nice to have veterans to bring the new kids along. He says the younger players look at the older players as role models and are always looking to them for direction.The Bees have won their division of the Mid-States Football Association the last four years and Sturdy says the strong competition has helped all the teams in the league. He says there’s been times when several teams have been rated and he says it’s been good to be involved in a quality league.St. Ambrose opens September 11th against Loras.
