Vice President to visit Iowa again

Vice President Dick Cheney makes yet another trip to Iowa. He’s scheduled to speak in Davenport at midday. Steve Grubbs of Davenport, a republican consultant, says eastern Iowa is key in the November election. Grubbs says in 2000, President Bush did well in central and western Iowa, but lost heavily-populated eastern Iowa. Grubbs says that’s why the Bush/Cheney campaign is focusing more time on the Mississippi River counties in 2004. Grubbs says appearing in Davenport gets media attention in Iowa and Illinois. Grubbs says “coming to the Quad Cities can be a two-fer” — grabbing the attention of voters in both states. But while Iowa is on the list of states in which the Bush/Kerry race is too close to call, Grubbs says Illinois is not. Grubbs says it looks like Iowa has a good shot at voting for the republican candidate for president for the first time since 1984. Grubbs, coincidentally, is in Indianapolis on business and will not be in Davenport today for the Vice President’s appearance.
