Man dies in Des Moines shoot out at appartment complex

August 25, 2004 By admin

One man died and another was shot during a gun battle last night in a Des Moines apartment complex. Twenty-four-year old Kimbrew Greene was shot and killed. Twenty-three-year-old Dantero Lee was shot and is currently in serious condition at a Des Moines hospital. Tony Steverson, a spokesman for Des Moines police. Steverson says Greene and Lee went to the apartment complex to see Amy Wasson and Rodney Brown, who lived there. Steverson says for some reason, a fight ensued and three of the four people started firing guns at one another in the apartment. Two had handguns and one had a rifle. The gunfight spilled into the hallway. The weapons used in the battle were two handguns and a rifle. Lee was hit three times by gunshots and tried to force his way into a neighbor’s apartment. When he didn’t easily gain entrance, he shot at the door lock but still didn’t get in. Police says he eventually got into another apartment where he was found by cops. Steverson says two kids were in the apartment where the gunbattle began. The kids weren’t injured. The other two adults involved in the gunfight aren’t talking to cops. Lee, the man who’s in the hospital, was involved in a burglary before that cops say bears some resemblance to the event last night.
