A western Iowa county attorney who’s fighting his removal from office is defending his actions. Cass County Attorney James Barry was called to the witness stand Wednesday, and by the end of the day, was still on the stand answering questions about his alleged improprieties in office. Throughout the day, Prosecutor Ron Feilmeyer grilled Barry about his knowledge of the sheriff’s special drug fund, the handling of weapons and ammunition seized during forfeitures, and of plea bargaining speeding tickets down to moving violations. Despite repeated attempts at getting him to admit he had done something illegal or unethical, Barry stood firm in his conviction that while he may have may some errors in judgement, he had legally done nothing wrong.
