The Iowa Hawkeyes host Michigan State in their annual homecoming game and will be out to snap a two game losing skid. The Spartans are 2-2 and opened Big Ten action with a victory over Indiana led by the throwing and running of quarterback Drew Stanton. Hawkeye coach Kirk Ferentz says it looks like Stanton is fully healthy. He says it’s more fun when you play a one-dimentional quarterback, but that’s not the case this week. If Iowa wins the coin toss they will start on offense. In last year’s loss at Michigan State the Hawkeyes took the wind and the Spartans scored two quick touchdowns. Ferentz says he learned a lesson last year as the wind didn’t seem to be a factor for MSU last year. When given time to throw Iowa quarterback Drew Tate has been effective but he has been sacked numerous times. Ferentz says hopefully that won’t be the case in the future.Iowa State opens the Big-12 race at 24th rated Oklahoma State. The Cyclones will be looking to snap a ten game conference losing streak and coach Dan McCarney says this would be a big one to get. He says you’re always looking for a spark and a big victory to get you going. He says every Big 12 team has had a winning conference season and they’re no further ahead or behind than any other team. The Cyclones are 2-1 and McCarney says the ground game needs to get more effective. He says there are guys on the offensive line that haven’t played as well as they can. He says hopefully runningback Stevie Hicks will play as well as he has practiced. McCarney says the Cyclones need to move the ball no matter how it’s done. He says they want to have balance, but he says they have to do what they can to be effective.
