Cedar Falls police say money spent on security measures for the University of Northern Iowa’s homecoming celebration was a good investment. Police reported only minor problems associated with the celebration. Officials say they issued 251 citations in the College Hill area over the weekend, including 132 for open alcohol containers. Authorities also made 26 arrests, most of which were for public intoxication. This year, the city of Cedar Falls spent more than 50-thousand dollars on homecoming security measures. The effort included closing off part of a main street near campus with a 125-foot water-filled barrier. Police say the barricade system kept the normally large crowd to more managable numbers and eliminated certain behaviors that have led to violence during recent U-N-I homecoming celebrations.
