Iowa will prepare for a trip to Illinois after after the Hawkeye defense saved the day in a 6-4 victory at Penn State. The Nittany Lions score a pair of safeties against the Iowa punt team but ever member of the Hawkeye secondary had an interception as they improved to 5-2 pverall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says it was a great thing to see and says it comes down to preparation. He says it’s all team football. It was a frustrating day for the Iowa offense. The Hawkeyes managed only two first half field goals by Kyle Slicher and sophomore quarterback Drew Tate was 14 of 31 for 126-yards of passing and had one interception. Ferentz says it wasn’t a day where Tate had a rythmn or the team had a rythmn offensively. But Ferentz says Tate played with grit and is a tough minded guy.Safety Sean Considine returned to the line-up after a foot injury and returned an interception 51 yards in the first half to set up a field goal. Both Iowa corners, Antwan Allen and Jovon Johnson, also had interceptions. Considine says people are sometimes hard on the corners, but he says they’re both great corners and capable of making plays. Marcus Paschal also posted an interception as the Hawkeyes held the versatile Michael Robinson in check.
