The human remains found back in July in northeastern Mason City have now been positively identified as a missing Mason City man. The remains of 44-year-old James Maurice Perkins were found on an acreage by some farm workers near Ideal Creek northeast of Mason City back on July 14th. Perkins was last seen in May 1995 as he was fleeing from police as part of an assault incident. State Medical Examiner Doctor Julia Goodin says she has positively identified the found remains as those of Perkins. The cause of death is listed as unknown and the manner of death is listed as undetermined. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has conducted an investigation since the recovery of the remains, and they say that there is no evidence of foul play. There was initial speculation that the remains were those of a missing Mason City TV anchorwoman, until the remains were identified as being from a man.
