Senator Grassley not surprised by voter skepticism

A national poll finds Americans skeptical about the voting process, with 60-percent of respondants saying it’s unlikely there will be a clear presidential winner by November third, the day after Election Day. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he understands the skepticism. He says he doesn’t know either if there’ll be a clear winner and thinks it’ll be a very close race. Grassley says he also knows it’s possible for someone to win the popular vote while losing in the electoral college — and losing the election. Grassley , a republican, says he yearns for the “old days” when voting was seen as a civic responsibility and not something where the final outcome would be settled in a courthouse. People didn’t force people to vote back then, he says, while “Now, it’s almost as if there’s somebody knocking at your door every day to make sure you voted, not only asking you to vote but also trying to pick up a ballot.” Grassley says it’s ironic the more effort that’s put on trying to expand the electorate, the more people become concerned about fraud and abuse.
