Fourth Hawkeye runningback counted out with injury

November 3, 2004 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes have lost their fourth running back to an ACL injury. Champ Davis will be lost for the season after injuring his knee in the Hawkeyes win at Illinois. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says it is an injury that is not uncommon in football but to have one position hit so hard is unusual. He says they’ve had more than one every year, but he says it’s dramatic because it has hit one position. Iowa hosts Purdue on Saturday. The Boilermakers may be known for their high scoring offense but Ferentz feels their defense may be over looked. He says they’ve played good defense each of the years he’s been in the league. Ferentz says this is a strong Boiler defense even though it looks a little different from last year with guys gone who are now playing in the NFL.
