The state’s Law Enforcement Academy says there’s no evidence of racial bias in an investigation of the Mason City Police Department. The academy was asked by Mason City city officials to conduct the investigation into possible racial profiling after Leland Foster, the son of city councilman Leonard Foster, accused the city’s police department of singling out black residents in traffic stops and other police matters. Academy director Penny Westfall says they reviewed videotapes of randomly selected traffics stops involving blacks and others. Westfall’s report says there’s no visible evidence of any “disparaging, demeaning, or biased treatment” of any drivers by Mason City police.
