New steeple goes up at Jefferson County Courthouse

November 5, 2004 By admin

The new steeple at the Jefferson County Courthouse in Fairfield was lifted into place this morning filling a spot that had been empty for 56 years. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday with those who donated toward the project, with Fairfield icon Lee Gobble, who has spearheaded the $50,000 steeple fundraising project. Gobble’s goal was to have the steeple replaced by his 90th birthday, which is about a month away. The original steeple was destroyed in a storm in 1948.
