Deputy recovering from shooting, two in custody

Authorities are still investigating the shooting of a Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Deputy this morning. At least one possible suspect is in custody in Cass County, Nebraska, but Pottawattamie County has yet to file charges against the man. The shooting happened at about 3:20 this morning near the 42 mile-marker in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in western Iowa when Deputy Brian Loomis had pulled over a Lincoln Navigator for speeding. The driver of the vehicle opened fire on the deputy, striking Loomis in both arms. The 30-year-old deputy is in stable condition at an Omaha hospital.The Lincoln Navigator was spotted about three hours later near Plattsmouth, Nebraska. The driver led authorities there on a high-speed chase before he was finally arrested. He faces numerous charges in Nebraska, but none in Pottawattamie County, as of yet. At least one other person is also in custody in connection with the shooting, and authorities say a third person may have been involved.
