The U.S. Small Business Administration is looking for successful small business leaders in Iowa. S-B-A district director Joe Folsom says nominations are being accepted for the next few weeks in nine categories including Small Business Person of the Year. The awards recognize small businesses for their accomplishments and contributions to their employees, their communities and the state’s economy. Folsom says a business is generally considered a small business if it has fewer than 500 employees or does less than four-million dollars in sales a year. He says most Iowa businesses fit into that category and he’d like to be inundated with nominations. The awards categories include: Financial Services Champion of the Year, Home-Based Business Champion of the Year, Minority Small Business Champion of the Year, Small Business Exporter of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Small Business Journalist of the Year, Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year, Women in Business Champion of the Year. Folsom says there’s one other category that hasn’t been around in past years. The new category is S-B-A Family-Owned Small Business of the Year. The deadline to submit a nomination is December 3rd. For more information, call the S-B-A in Des Moines at (515) 284-4522.
