Last week voters went to the polls — and next week lawmakers will return to Washington D.C. Iowa’s Fourth District Congressman Tom Latham, a republican from Alexander, says one of his priorities in the final weeks of the 108th Congress will be the expansion of Highway 20, running from Sioux City to Dubuque. Latham says “There’ll be another attempt to try and get the reauthorization of the Highway Bill done. It may actually end up going into next year in April or March, but with that, there’ll be a dramatic increase in funding for the state of Iowa.” Latham says it’s important to keep the ball rolling on the vital highway project. Latham says, “We want to continue on through the appropriations process to get dollars for Highway 20, it’s absolutely critical.” Latham says one of the state’s other major roadways is in need of highway funding as well. Latham says “We need to improve Highway 30 and make sure we get all of that done, so there’s an awful lot of work to do.”
