Third man charged in shooting of deputy

November 17, 2004 By admin

A third Nebraska man is charged in connection with last week’s shooting of a western Iowa law officer. The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Christopher Smith of LaVista, Nebraska, is charged with attempted murder, assault on a police officer, and four other charges. Smith is currently in the Douglas County, Nebraska, jail on unrelated felony theft charges. Smith, 24-year-old Jeremy Clark of LaVista and 23-year-old Colton Dineen of Omaha were all allegedly involved in the shooting of Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Loomis during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 last Wednesday morning. Clark and Dineen were arrested in Cass County, Nebraska. They’ll be taken to Pottawattamie County today for a court hearing. Deputy Loomis is recovering from gunshot wounds to both arms.
