Members of an animal rights group e-mailed a message to Cedar Rapids T-V station K-C-R-G this morning, claiming they waged a weekend attack and “rescue mission” in Iowa City, causing tens of thousands of dollars damage. The Animal Liberation Front is claiming responsibility for vandalism at the University of Iowa over the weekend at Spence Labs and Seashore Hall. A-L-F says all animals on the third floor of the U-of- I Psychology Department were removed, examined and treated by a veterinarian. All 401 animals – 88 mice and 313 rats – were placed in what the group says are loving homes. Two animal labs and three offices were broken into, and all contents relating to animal research were destroyed. A-L-F also says they are responsible for destroying dozens of computers, surgical equipment, paperwork, and more. The message also released the names, numbers and address of many U-of-I researchers.
