Boswell says intelligence efforts going well

November 19, 2004 By admin

Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell is back at work in Washington, D.C. after a visit to the Middle East. Boswell is a democrat who visited Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan. He says he got up into the tribal area between Pakiston and Afghanistan where the U.S. is hunting for Osama Bin Laden, and observed some of that operation. Boswell took the trip as a member of the House Intelligence Committee. He says they got to visit people working in the U-S intelligence gathering network. He says most of it was part of a C-I-A operation and he says he can’t talk about it so he doesn’t compromise the safety of the people involved. Boswell says he did learn alot that will be helpful as they talk about how to structure our intelligence activity. He says it’s important to see things first hand. He says it was good to have the exposure, kind of like “going to the front line.” Boswell also visited Iraq and talked with some Iowa soldiers. He says the soldiers were very upbeat and focused on doing their jobs. Boswell says it appeared the soldiers he talked to had all the equipment and other materials they needed to do their jobs. Boswell was just re-elected to another term representing Iowa’s third congressional district.
