Iowa’s insurance commissioner is leaving, but not going far. Therese “Terri” Vaughan was the youngest person inducted into the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame and is the state’s longest serving commissioner, appointed to head the state department in 1994. That’s also the year she received the Outstanding Teacher Award in Drake’s college of Business and Public Administration, where she served as director of the Insurance Center. She’s written two textbooks on the topic. At the state insurance division, Vaughan supervised a staff of 95 employees and a budget of eight and-a-half million dollars. Now she’ll return to Drake to teach undergrad and graduate students, as the Robb B. Kelley distinguished professor of insurance and actuarial science.
