If you’re tired of fighting the crowds want to see what things were like before everyone rushed around to the stores after Thanksgiving, there’s a special event near Cedar Rapids that might fit the bill. Vicki Hughs is the director of the Ushers Ferry Historic Village which has two candlelight tours set for tonight and tomorrow. (Friday and Saturday). She says the village is covered with liminaries and they have demonstrations and activities going on throughout the village. Hughes says they’ll take you back in time 100 years. She says they’ll celebrate a holiday from 1904 and everyone will be in costume and celebrating like they would back then. There’ll be an old fashioned hym sing and a dance at the Grange hall. Hughes says it’s a lot different than the commercialized holidays of today. She says everything in 1904 was made from scratch and that’s what you’ll see. She says there’s activities for the young and old alike. The village is open from four p-m until eight p-m tonight and tomorrow. The cost is five dollars for adults and two for children. Hughes asks that you bring a flashlight or lantern with you.
