Time is running out for Iowans who plan to send holiday gifts or cards to those serving overseas in the military. Postal Service spokesman Jim Ahlgren says the two Mondays before Christmas will be the busiest days of the year for the postal service. Ahlgren says “We want people to start thinking about getting their packages together, taking them down to the post office and mailing them just as soon as they can.” When you’re getting ready to mail out holiday packages this year, he says you will want a scale nearby. He says “If you’re mailing a package that weighs one pound or more, that has to be brought into the post office and entered into the mail stream in person or give it to your letter carrier. No longer can you just drop it into a mailbox somewhere.” Ahlgren says that requirement was implemented several years ago for security reasons.
