Congressman Steve King says he can’t support the intelligence overhaul the family members of September 11th victims support. King voted for the bill when it passed the House, but Senators have balked at provisions to limit immigration. King says eight of the 19 September 11th terrorists had registered to vote and among them had 63 valid drivers licenses. King says the House tried to close those kind of loopholes that allowed that group of immigrants to become “defacto citizens” of the United States. King says there are other changes he cannot support, like creation of a national intelligence director.King says that national intelligence director will have full control of the country’s 15 intelligence agencies. King says such a move would endanger the U.S. with a “group-think” mentality. King believes independent thinking would be discouraged as underlings strive to please the new intelligence czar.King says the families of 9/11 victims are looking for some closure to that fateful day, but he says the 10 members of the 9/11 commission who’re backing the bill don’t have superior judgement to the 435 members of the United States Congress. President Bush backs the bill, too. King, who is a republican from western Iowa, says the President’s position doesn’t sway him as King says Bush hasn’t applied that much pressure to republican members of Congress on the issue.
