The 47th annual Grammy nominations are out and two bands with Iowa ties are in the running for the golden gramophones. The central Iowa town known for its tulip festival, Pella, is the hometown of Dave Keuning, guitarist of the Las Vegas-based rock band “The Killers.” They nailed three nominations — for Best Rock Song, Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance — though in that category they’re up against the likes of Elvis Costello and U-2. On the harder edge, Des Moines-based Slipknot earned two Grammy nominations this year, for Best Metal Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance. Slilpknot’s been nominated five times in recent years but as yet, has no wins. The awards will be announced February 13th in Los Angeles.
