The Florida National Guard presented military honors to the family of a fallen soldier last night in the northwest Iowa town of Spencer. 20-year old Specialist Daryl Davis was killed in a Humvee accident near Baghdad, Iraq on November 29th. Davis enlisted with the 21-68th Transportation Unit in Sheldon, Iowa, before transferring to the 144th Transportation Company in Marianna, Florida. Awards were presented to Daryl’s mother, Dana Davis, and father, Richard Rosado, by Brigadier General Michael Fleming, Assistant Adjutant General of the Florida National Guard. Davis was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Florida Cross, the Army Good Conduct medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal and Service Medal. Fleming told the family the awards represent Daryl’s selfless service and that he is part of a great legacy. Davis will be buried today with military honors from the Iowa National Guard at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. Major General Ron Dardis of the Iowa National Guard and other high ranking officials will attend. The funeral is scheduled to start at 10:30 this morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
