Iowa quarterback Drew Tate had no idea the season would end with a championship and a New Year’s Day bowl. The Texas native took over a young offense that suffered injuries at running back and up front and struggled to produce in a 2-2 start. Seven straight victories later and the Hawks are the co-Big Ten champs and Tate was named first team all conference. He says he was excited to win the conference and didn’t really think about the other honors. Tate says he went into the season just hoping to do well as the starter. With success comes more attention whether it is a team or individual and Tate knows he will get more attention know as they prepare for the Capital One Bowl against defending national champ L-S-U. He says it’ll be exciting and he says you have to avoid the distractions that come along with a bowl game. He says there’s still one more game left and they have to focus on that game.Iowa is 9-2.
