A man in the East-Central Iowa town of Brooklyn is facing several charges after allegedly lying to police and leading them on a chase. The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s office received a call late Sunday night regarding a domestic assault. When deputies arrived at the residence, the suspect Jason Crell had fled the scene. Crell later called the Sheriff’s office after allegedly stealing gas and said he had shot someone at the gas station. Deputies arrived at the gas station and found no evidence of a shooting. Crell was eventually spotted by deputies at which point a chase ensued. Iowa County deputies assisted on the call by deploying stop sticks which flattened the tires of Crell’s vehicle and allowed the deputies to take him into custody. No weapon was found on Crell or in his vehicle. He is charged with domestic abuse, filing a false report, theft, reckless driving, eluding, two stop sign violations, speeding and driving without a license. Crell is being held in the Poweshiek County jail where he awaits his initial appearance before the county magistrate.
