An Iowa man’s been sentenced to 30 to 40 years in prison. When police went to the Carter Lake, Iowa, home of Stephen Halbert, they were looking for his uncle, a man with a similar name. But 19-year-old Stephen took off, driving what police say was a stolen SUV. He led police on a high-speed chase about five miles, across the Missouri River into Omaha at one in the morning that day back in March — and at a streetcorner his vehicle slammed into two motorcycles, killing two Omaha men and a woman from Council Bluffs. Halbert himself was seriously injured and spent some time in a coma in the hospital. Now he’ll be eligible for parole in sixteen years.
