The storm covering virtually all the state hit residents of Ottumwa with ice as well as snow. Last night fire and police departments were kept busy with reports of downed powerlines and tree limbs, after more freezing rain hit the Ottumwa area during the night. Up to half an inch of ice coated trees and power lines in the area, and they could get more today and tonight, with forecasters calling for continued icing and winds up to 25 miles an hour later today. By midnight as many as 1000 customers of Alliant Energy were without power, and crews got the number down to about 700 still in the dark this morning.
