Two of the top teams in the Iowa Conference women’s basketball race collide Friday night in Decorah as Luther hosts Simpson. Both teams enter the game with 4-0 records in the league race. Simpson is in the midst of its toughest week of the season. The Storm won at Loras 57-56 on Tuesday night and after Friday night’s game will travel to Buena Vista for a matchup with one of the other contenders on Saturday afternoon. Simpson coach Brian Niemuth says “it’s definately the week from hell.” He says the matchup with Luther will feature simmilar teams, as both have a lot of depth and like to run. Both also have size inside. Niemuth says the success of both teams start on the defensive end.Luther coach Jane Hildebrand agrees that these teams are very similar. She says that stood out in the preparation for this game as they tried to find an area to expose.Luther is 10-2 overall and Hildebrand says they keep getting better on defense. she says they’re starting to jell a lot better together, which she says helps when you’re playing defense. Hildebrand says with so many tough road games ahead it is important they keep winning at home and she says that’s going to be key in the league.Simpson enters the game with a record of 11-2 overall.
