A Waterloo man who was accused of sexually abusing three children has apparently killed himself, just days after his arrest. 62-year-old Edward Murphy was found dead yesterday morning on a city street next to a parked vehicle. A preliminary investigation by Waterloo police and the Black Hawk County medical examiner’s office indicates Murphy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy has been scheduled with the state medical examiner to confirm the cause of death. Murphy was charged last Thursday with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and one count of indecent contact with a child. The incidents, which allegedly occurred at two private daycares in Waterloo over the past seven years, involved three children under the age of ten.
