The Iowa Supreme Court today (Friday) suspended the law license of a LeMars attorney for three months. The court’s board of professional ethic and conduct filed a complaint against Dewey Sloan Junior last March after his conviction on charges of possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The grievance commission found Sloan had illegally used drugs with a client and a judge removed Sloan as the person’s attorney due to a conflict of interest. The panel found Sloan had called the client 26 times in one day to obtain drugs. After his drug conviction, Sloan completed inpatient and outpatient drug treatment. He won’t comment, other than to say he broke the law and deserves what he got. Sloan adds, he’s been “clean and sober” for a year and a half.
