The UNI women’s basketball team is looking for their best ever Missouri Valley Conference finish. With two games left in the regular season, the Panthers are in sole possession of second place in the Valley with a 12-4 record and can assure themselves of at least a tie for second place in the conference with a win tomorrow night at Wichita State. The Panther’s previous highest finish has been third place. Coach Tony DiCecco feels this year’s team has been a special group. He says “It’s the best team I’ve ever coached. It really is, it’s the most enjoyable team I’ve ever coached, and I know we’ve had some great teams here.” He says it’s been the most enjoyable team he’s coached in 34 years. UNI is 18-9 overall. DiCecco feels if the Panthers don’t win the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference tournament, they still have a good shot at earning a women’s NIT berth. He says finishing second in the league has to speak highly in regards to the WNIT looking at the conference.
