Firm looks for truckers

March 3, 2005 By admin

A hiring fair’s going on in the Quad Cities today (Thursday). Recruiting Director Mike Norder hires truck drivers for Wisconsin-based Schneider National, and says there’s a “huge” demand for drivers nationwide. Norder claims we’re in the midst of a nationwide driver shortage, even as the client demand for trucking service is at an all-time high. Schneider’s looking for drivers right now, and focusing its efforts on eastern Iowa. Among jobs they’re looking to fill, hauling merchandise from Maquoketa’s “Family Dollar” distribution center, and glass from Guardian Industries in DeWitt. Norder says Schneider National is North America’s largest truckload carrier. Schneider has a big operating center in Des Moines, from which the company manages some 890 drivers already, and he says in eastern Iowa they serve Guardian and Family Dollar as well as many one-way over-the-road customers. Schneider hauls goods across all 48 continental United States. Norder says it’s a great job for people sick of looking at the same four walls. The company’s looking for experienced truckers, but will also hire and train inexperienced drivers. He points out there’s no re-location required for anybody who finds a job. Norder says they’re looking to hire 100 people today. They’re giving presentations about the company and taking applications today (Thursday) from 9 AM to 7 PM at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Davenport.
